Kirkby Lions Junior Football Club is for both girls and boys, and all are welcome.
We run several teams from under 6’s age group (which welcomes 4 and 5 year olds), up to under 11’s. We currently have spaces in our Under 6s (reception and year 1 at school), and some spaces in the older age groups. If you are interested in joining, please fill in the form here and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

The club runs on a Saturday morning during term time, with training usually from 9.30 -10.30am, and a mix of home and away matches (although under 6s don’t play in matches due to FA rules). Training and home matches are held at Highside Playing Fields, Kirkby Malzeard, HG4 3SH.

For training sessions, players can wear any suitable sports clothes (or clothes you don’t mind getting muddy!) and they must have shin pads and football boots. We have a box of second hand boots at the club with a range of sizes available and a selection of second hand kit and shin pads, which are all available to buy. Any new kit can be ordered by filling in this form.

We are part of the FA Charter Standard Nidderdale Junior Football League, and are ourselves a Charter Standard Club.
Our club ethos is to provide football for all, and we work hard to maintain a safe and fun place for every child to play and enjoy the game.

We welcome any volunteers who can give up some time to help our children enjoy their football an support the club – from sale of tea coffee and cake on match day, to helping to coach the children.

What does it mean to be a FA Charter Standard Club?

Denby tournament Saturday 11th May- all the details

Here are all the details for the tournament next Saturday, we hope you are all as excited as we are! If you have any questions please get in touch.

Payment – thank you to all of you who have already paid by BACS, if you are paying by cash on the day please find me and pay before your first match.

Parking – please make sure that everyone knows where the designated parking sites are, and where not to park. Last year we had quite a few complaints from residents and if it happens again then we will no longer be allowed to hold the tournament.

Fixtures – please see the pitch locations, and fixtures split by pitch, team and time to help you navigate where you need to be when. The change over times are quite tight so please make sure you are ready to go at the start of the match, and any team talks take place off the pitches to not hold up the next match.

Presentation ceremonies – the timings for the medal ceremonies are in the tournament programme, we will be holding the ceremonies by the pavilion so please make sure the players are there ready for the assigned time.

Rules and referees – please read the rules and notes for referees in the tournament programme, each match is assigned a referee from the two teams playing (apart from the under 11s matches) and it is their job to make sure the scores are reported to me.

Food and drinks – thanks to our wonderful volunteers, we will have a selection of hot and cold food and sweet treats available, cash and card accepted. This year we are serving all the food from the pavilion rather than having the bbq separate.

Games and tombola – we will have a tombola and a few games to play to help keep the players entertained when they are not playing.

Playground – please remind all players that the playground is for everyone, not just those attending the tournament. Unfortunately, there were some unkind incidents last year which we want to avoid.

No Dogs – please note that no dogs are allowed on the field during the tournament.

We only do positive – we want all the players attending to have fun and enjoy their tournament experience, we will not tolerate any offensive, insulting, or abusive behaviour or language.

We are looking forward to welcoming you all next Saturday.

Denby Tournament 11th May

The plans for the tournament are progressing well and now we are ready for teams to enter!

Our annual charity tournament, the Denby Tournament, which is named after one of our former coaches, is getting closer. The tournament will be held on Saturday 11th May at our home ground in Kirby Malzeard. As with previous years we are inviting clubs to enter teams across all our league age groups (under 7, under 8, under 9, under 10 and under 11), the format of the event is expected to follow that of previous years, but exact details will be confirmed once we understand which clubs are taking part and in which age groups.

The fee for this year’s Denby tournament will be £24 per individual team entered into an age group (please note you can enter more than one team per age group), all profits will be split between the charities we are supporting this year. Due to time constraints entries may have to be limited depending on the number of clubs and teams who want to play. Please fill in this form: https://forms.gle/aWwxznT8BF5QrWLU7 it can be filled in as a whole club, or by individual teams, if there are any problems please let me know. The deadline for completing the form is Saturday 27th April.

Each child taking part will be presented with a medal and the winning team at each age group will be awarded the Denby Tournament trophy for the respective age group which you get to keep for the year. If any of the teams still have a trophy, please can we have it back as soon as possible.

We are going to need lots of help beforehand and on the day. We need:

Tombola items – if you have anything that you would be happy to donate to the tombola it would be gratefully received, it can be anything, including toys, gifts, sweets, bottles, etc. Please bring them along to Kirkby at training/match days, or you can pass them on to any of us.

Volunteers – we will need lots of volunteers to run the cafe and the bbq, set up the pitches, put up signs, and help tidy away afterwards. If you can help please get in touch, and we will have sign up sheets at training/match days.

Cakes! – Last year the cakes were really popular and we sold out about half way through the tournament, so this year we would love it if we could have more cakes (homemade or shop bought) brought along on the day.

This is a great opportunity for a fun day of football and a great chance to raise money for our chosen charities of the Sick Children’s Trust and St Michael’s Hospice.

Fees for the 2023-24 season

Firstly, I would just like to say a massive thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who help out every week, the club wouldn’t be able to run without you!

Due to the all of the wonderful help from many different parents helping out on match days in the cafe, and from you all donating and buying secondhand kit and boots from the club, I am really pleased to announce (even though our running cost have gone up) we are able to keep the fees at the same price as last season!

This means that the fees for this season are:
£25 for players in the under 6s
£45 for all other players
The under 6s pay less as they don’t play in matches due to FA rules and will not have training when we have away matches.

Please pay by BACS and include your child’s name in the reference so we can trace who has paid.

Please send me a message when you have paid and payment is due by Monday 23rd October.

We really appreciate everyone helping out in any way you can, it makes a massive difference to the club.

2023-24 Season Starting Saturday 9th September – current players and new players

I hope you are all enjoying your summer holidays! Before we can start back in September all current players and any players wishing to join need to fill in some forms.

CURRENT PLAYERS:

Firstly, please can all current players fill in this form https://forms.gle/8aTosMEuz7cpxTEb6, we have had quite a lot of enquiries from players wanting to join so I need to know if we have any spaces for them.

If I have not heard from you by Monday 4th September I’ll assume that you are not returning. Also if anyone did not pay their fees for last season, you will not be registered for this season.

If you are returning we now have even more hoops to jump through to get everyone registered on the FA’s Whole Game System, I’ve put everything that needs doing into one form with links https://forms.gle/qMirMudp6bXBUYYf7, the biggest change is I need to see all the player’s ID to verify it before they can be submitted to the league and play in the first match of the season.

NEW PLAYERS:

Anyone who is wanting to start in September please can you fill in this form to register your interest and I will contact you when I know if there are any spaces in the team https://forms.gle/gXHWMgHmftDn6okAA

We are looking forward to seeing you all at training on Saturday 9th September!

Denby Tournament money raised

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Thank you to everyone who helped out with the preparations and on the day of the tournament, you are amazing and we couldn’t have done it with out you! Thank you also to everyone who came along and took part and supported the players, we hope you had a great day.

I am extremely happy to announce that the Denby tournament raised a fantastic £2093.20! After donations to the Guides for all their help, we have raised an amazing £921.60 each for the the Sick Children’s Trust and St Michael’s Hospice.

2023 Denby tournament Saturday 13th May – parking map, program with rules and fixtures

Please find attached the information about parking, the program with the details of the fixtures and the rules, and apologies for not getting things to you before now, we had some last minute changes to deal with.

Please in particular please pay attention to:

– the ‘Denby Parking Map‘ with the details of parking available on the day and where not to park, it is very important that locals and emergency vehicles can have access to the whole village

– the ‘Denby Fixtures‘ – Time and Referee’ (which gives full fixture details, including which team is to provide the referee) teams need to arrive at least 10 minutes before their first match

– the ‘Pitch locations‘ as we have put in extra pitches this year to reduce the time waiting between games, so please check which pitch you are on for each game as it will change

– the ‘Tournament format and rules‘ which explains what to expect

– the ‘Presentation ceremony‘ times for when we plan to give out the medals and trophies

– No dogs are allowed on the playing fields

Coaches – Please remember to bring your own whistle and timing device and matches need to run to time to make sure the tournament runs smoothly.

There will be a cafe, bbq, tombola and games (all cash only) to help keep everyone entertained between matches.

The payment of the £22 per individual team entered is now due; if you are planning on paying on the day or if you have paid by BACS please let me know.

You can either pay by cash or cheque (payable to Kirkby Malzeard Junior Football Club) on the day, or by BACS. If you are paying by BACS please send a screenshot of the payment to me as proof so I can track who has paid.

All the profits from the tournament this year will go to the charities of St Michaels Hospice and the Sick Children’s Trust and some local Guides will also be helping out raising money for their upcoming trip.

We are all really looking forward to welcoming you all to the tournament, if you have any questions please let me know.

Save the date – Saturday 13th May for the Denby Tournament

We hope you are all looking forward to joining us for our end of season tournament on Saturday 13th May. The Denby tournament runs in memory of one of our coaches, Matthew Denby. All the teams in the league are invited and it is always a fun day of football. We run it as a charity tournament and every single penny raised after expenses go to the charities, which are St Michaels Hospice and the Sick Children’s Trust, and the Scouts and Guides will also be helping out raising money for their adventures.

As soon as all the teams are entered and we have a plan for the day I will post more details here.

Removal of heading in football trials

FIFA and the FA are running a scheme to try and remove the deliberate heading of the ball in all teams up to and including under 12s. Our league is taking part in the trial and all coaches, players and spectators need to know about this rule change. Please see the info sheet and FAQs for more information.

– In essence, the rules are that no player from U12s and below are permitted to head a ball in any formal fixture (whether intentional or not).

– If a player heads a ball during a game, the referee will stop the game and award an Indirect Free Kick to the opposing team (i.e.the ball must be passed to another team member and not shoot directly).

–  Importantly coaches/referees are advised to take a ‘common sense’ approach to the trials and we wouldn’t expect any coaches/spectators or even players to start falling out/arguing about decisions made on the field of play.

Training starting 10th September 2022

We hope you are all having a lovely summer and you are looking forward to starting back at football!

Our first training session for everyone of the new season will be 10th September, from 9.30-10.30am. Please remember your boots, shin pads, water and inhalers or other required medication and please let me know if you can’t attend (we understand it is the 11+ and so U11s may not be able to attend).

Please make sure you have filled in the parent (https://forms.gle/jUBqMvXNUv6KttwF7) and player (https://forms.gle/S5ytwXBjgT7DGAfH7) codes of conduct and confirmed your details on FA whole game system are correct by 5th September, if these are not filled in your player will not be allowed to train. Thank you to all those who have already filled these in.

Hot drinks we will have hot drinks available in the pavilion for a suggested donation of £1.

Secondhand kit there is a small selection of secondhand kit available to buy from the club, if anyone has outgrown their kit and would like to donate it, it would be gratefully received.

Secondhand boot box we have a range of sizes of boots available to buy from the club for £5 a pair, again if anyone has any boots to donate we would be very grateful for them.
